Many digital models are available for modeling the physical behavior of plucked-guitar tones. However, these methods do not adequately describe the expressive techniques used by guitarists, such as varying the articulation through modification of plucking position, dynamics and picking device. This research investigates modeling guitarists' expressive techniques through analysis of recorded performance.
- Quantitative models describing particular string excitations and responses.
- Characterization of performer's playing styles for transcription and tablature.
- Synthesis engine for new musical interfaces, such as touch=screen devices, with greater expressive control over existing sample-based synthesizers.
